You would think that I’ve fallen off the face of the earth or something with the dearth that has been the lack of postings. I am alive and well, and have been so since the last posting. However, since I am on dialup now, I have to choose my computer activities carefully, and for often than not, blogging wasn’t one of them. I liked to post pictures of the little munchkin, and videos too, but with the bandwidth that I have available to me at home, it’s not in the agenda. On Sunday, I downloaded an E-book from Yanceyware and I shut down every other application that connected to the internet. It still took about 15 minutes for the 1.5 Mb file to download. Dialup does have an upside though. I discovered that the special at Source by Circuit City, in which you receive a $400 discount towards the purchase of a new computer, is available to new High Speed Internet customers. In order to qualify, you need to be without High Speed for at least six months. We’ve been without High Speed now for five and a half months. Caitlin has been pestering me to get a laptop, and I’ve been thinking that would be a good thing to have as well to help with writing. But that’s later.
The big things that have been taking up my time the past little while were a) NaNoWriMo; b) Christmas – shopping, celebrating, and the workload; and c) Rini. That little girl has not started walking yet, but she is crawling with a vengeance, and she’s standing up, and pulling herself up. She’s even started with a side step, but she’s still got the twinkle toes going on.
I also had a job interview on Tuesday, and I think it went quite well. I still need to send off my transcripts and my response to whether I would be interested in casual work if they don’t have a full time position available. I’m thinking that casual work would be a plus, because that would give me the experience that I would need to get in the door, and into the market.
In the interview, one of the questions I was asked, was where I saw myself in five to ten years. I had an idea, but I was unclear on whether it was a business project, or whether it was a personal project. Grandpa Clark built a wonderful home, that is very, very energy efficient. It was kind of ahead of the time, but it is still a great place (except the carpenter ants, but that’s details). I was thinking that I could improve upon it by making it self-sufficient for electricity. Solar panels would be one thing, but it could also use wind power. There would have to be a storage device of some sort for the off time, a kind of battery pack. At the end of the interview, the interviewer asked on of the tech guys if there was a question that he had for me. “Did I have any drafting experience?” was the question. Sadly, I could not answer yes, but the interviewer then said that it would be a good idea to get some kind of experience, especially if I wanted to build a house.
I’m also going to be transferring over to Millwoods. They have a bit of a staffing shortage, including the Assistant Manager who was just recently let go. It’s funny. I like the Southgate store, because it is very efficient, busy, and bigger. The mall I’m not as big a fan. Then we have Millwoods Town Center. The store is much smaller, not as many tills, and not as much stock available. I love the mall though. It seems I can’t have both. Oh, wait. I did for awhile. Londonderry was a very nice place, but I left after it went Joint Venture and they were going to cut out the health benefits. Worked out for the better anyway, because I don’t think I would have got the experience at Southgate had I decided to stay there, and I might not have been able to get Mike Berube his job there.
I’m going to be starting on Sunday, and that reminded me of something else that I liked about Southgate. Ron would allow for me to go to church on Sunday. Millwoods, I might not get that. I may hate myself for transferring.
But if I can scrounge together $300,000 I could buy out the Beaumont dealer store and relocate there! I think I would have better luck buying a house than a business, and that should be the primary investment on the plane at the moment.
Rini is crawling all over me right now, so it’s time to post and make sure she doesn’t destroy the house!
